The Contract Officer manages a portfolio of school bus service contracts across metropolitan, regional and remote WA.
You’ll oversee the full contract lifecycle — from procurement and service planning to compliance, auditing and stakeholder support — ensuring safe, efficient and policy‑aligned transport assistance for eligible students.
Our client is happy to train the technical aspects of this role, so if you don’t have all the experience required, we encourage you to apply as they are open to people willing to learn – you just really need good problem solving skills and strong customer service / negotiation skills.
YOU WILL HAVE:

- Ability to pick up new systems quickly
- Strong understanding of contract management principles.
- Well‑developed communication, negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Analytical and problem‑solving capability, including interpreting legislation and route planning.
- Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and work independently or as part of a team.
DUTIES:
Contract Management
- Manage and coordinate a portfolio of school bus service contracts.
- Monitor service performance, administer variations, conduct reviews and prepare business cases.
- Support procurement processes, including tender evaluations for new and replacement services.
- Maintain contract databases and prepare documentation using established templates.
- Conduct scheduled and ad‑hoc compliance audits.
- Provide guidance to contractors on safety and escalate issues where required
.
Service Planning
- Review and monitor bus routes to ensure efficiency and policy compliance.
- Consult with stakeholders on new routes and network changes.
- Assist with broader network reviews to ensure cost‑effective service delivery.
Student Transport Assistance
- Assess Student Transport Assistance applications within required timeframes.
- Work with stakeholders on sensitive matters including special needs, custody issues and medical care plans.
- Provide policy advice, manage complaints and support conflict resolution.
Student Behaviour Management
- Apply and support the department's Behaviour Management Guidelines.
- Assist with investigations into significant misconduct.
- Provide guidance on adjustments for students with special needs.
