Key Duties & Responsibilities
Urban Forest Management
- Assist with annual maintenance and capital works for city trees.
- Conduct and assist with tree pruning (incl. around power lines), ensuring safe traffic management.
- Participate in the Street Tree Audit Program.
- Assess trees for pruning and communicate with stakeholders.
- Evaluate tree impact in crossover & development applications.
Technical Support & Advice
- Provide advice on tree protection in construction and urban design.
- Contribute to project reports, stats collection and analysis.
- Assist Parks, Leisure and Environment officers with tree-related advice.
Customer & Community Interaction
- Handle public enquiries, complaints, and correspondence regarding trees.
- Contribute to public safety and risk management of city trees.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain safe working conditions and ensure machinery is used correctly.
- Monitor contractor compliance with tree maintenance contracts.
Tree Planting Programs
- Help with annual tree planting, including inspecting stock pre-purchase.
General Workplace Policies

- Contribute to continuous improvement.
- Always act in the best interests of the City and community.
- Perform other tasks as directed.
Essential Selection Criteria
Qualifications & Licensing
- Desirable: Certificate III in Arboriculture (or working towards), or equivalent experience.
- C class driver’s licence (LR within 6 months).
- White Card & National Police Clearance (or ability to acquire).
Skills & Experience
- Arboriculture fieldwork experience (incl. using equipment).
- Report writing and basic technical research.
- Problem-solving and initiative.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Good organisation and admin ability.
- Road Traffic Management and Chainsaw Certificate (or ability to obtain).
- QTRA licence (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Competent with Microsoft Office.
