To Help You Feel Confident and Prepared

Job interviews can be nerve-wracking — even if you’ve done plenty before. But with a little preparation and the right mindset, you can walk in feeling confident and ready to make a great impression.

Whether you're interviewing for a temporary role or a permanent position, here are some simple tips to help you put your best foot forward.

Do your homework

Before the interview, take some time to learn about the company — what they do, what they value, and who their clients or customers are.

If it’s through us, we’ll give you a briefing — but it’s always worth doing your own quick research online too. We are here to help you prepare so ask us questions!

Dress the part

You don’t need a full suit unless it’s a corporate environment, but aim to look neat, clean and professional. Dressing appropriately for the role shows you’re serious — and it helps make a good first impression before you even say a word.

Be on time

Punctuality matters. If it’s an in-person interview, plan to arrive 5 minutes early and report to reception. Try not to be more than 5-10 minutes early as the interviewer has set up that time for you.

If it’s over video, test your link, sound, and camera in advance.

Running late? Call or email as early as possible — communication goes a long way.

Be ready to talk about your experience

You don’t need to memorise your whole resume but be ready to talk through your past roles and responsibilities. Think about what you enjoyed, what you learned, and what you’re most proud of. If you’ve had gaps in your work history, just be honest — most employers appreciate transparency.

Use real examples

When answering questions, try to give real-life examples. Instead of saying “I’m a great problem-solver,” say how you’ve solved a problem in a past role. It makes your answers stronger and more memorable. Preparation is key here. Have a think about questions they will likely ask and re-read the job description again to give yourself time to come up with some examples.

Pro tip ….Keep a “brag book”

One of the best ways to boost your confidence before an interview is to keep a “brag book” — a simple document or folder where you collect positive feedback, key achievements, and proud moments from your work history. It could include:

  • Client or manager compliments
  • KPIs you’ve exceeded
  • Projects you helped deliver
  • Notes about situations where you stepped up or made a difference

Not only does this help you walk into the interview feeling positive and prepared, it gives you real-life examples to talk about. When you’re asked questions like “Tell me about a time you handled a challenge” or “What are you most proud of?” — your brag book has the answers.

Ask questions, too

Interviews go both ways! Asking a few questions at the end shows you’re interested and engaged. You might ask about the team, the day-to-day responsibilities, or what success looks like in the role.

Don’t stress about being “perfect”

Interviews aren’t about being flawless — they’re about being real. It’s okay to take a moment to think before answering, or to admit you don’t know something (and explain how you’d find the answer or learn). Employers are looking for people who are capable, reliable, and a good fit — not robots. You’ve made it to this stage of the interview; they know your resume so this is about your personality and how you will fit in with the team and what you can bring to the role.

Follow up with a thank you

A short thank-you email after your interview is always a nice touch. It shows professionalism, leaves a positive impression, and helps you stand out.

Pro tip - Think of an interview as practise

You won't win them all, and you don't want to! Don't forget you're interviewing to see if you want this role too. If you don't get the role, chalk it up to practise and experience so you're feeling more confident for your next!
